Understanding Time Zones
The world is divided into 24 major time zones, each roughly 15 degrees of longitude apart. UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the baseline from which all time zones are measured. Some zones use half-hour or quarter-hour offsets.
Note that many regions observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), which shifts clocks forward by one hour during warmer months. This calculator uses standard UTC offsets and does not automatically adjust for DST.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this account for Daylight Saving Time?
No. This calculator uses fixed UTC offsets. During DST periods, you may need to manually adjust by one hour for affected regions.
What does UTC mean?
UTC stands for Coordinated Universal Time. It's the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks. It replaced GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) as the reference standard.
