How It Works
To convert an annual salary to an hourly rate, divide the salary by the total number of working hours in a year: Hourly Rate = Annual Salary ÷ (Hours per Week × Weeks per Year). For a standard full-time schedule of 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year, that's 2,080 hours.
Conversely, multiply your hourly wage by the total annual working hours to find your equivalent annual salary. Adjusting the weeks-per-year field lets you account for unpaid time off.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many work hours are in a year?
A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). If you take unpaid leave, reduce the weeks-per-year value accordingly — for example, 50 weeks gives 2,000 hours.
Does this account for taxes?
No. The results show gross pay before income taxes, Social Security, Medicare, or other deductions. Use an income tax calculator to estimate your take-home pay.
What about overtime pay?
This calculator assumes a flat rate for all hours. If you earn overtime (typically 1.5× for hours over 40/week in the US), your effective hourly rate will be higher than the figure shown here.
