How It Works

Pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance. When you know any two of distance, time, and pace, this calculator computes the third: Pace = Time ÷ Distance, Time = Pace × Distance, or Distance = Time ÷ Pace. Speed is the inverse of pace expressed in distance per hour.

The calculator also estimates your finish times for popular race distances (5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Marathon) based on your calculated pace. These are straight-line projections — actual race performance depends on terrain, training, weather, and pacing strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good running pace for beginners?
Most beginner runners start at a pace of 6:00-8:00 min/km (9:40-12:50 min/mi). The key is to run at a comfortable, conversational pace and gradually improve over time rather than pushing too fast too soon.
How do I convert pace to speed?
To convert pace (min/km) to speed (km/h), divide 60 by the pace in minutes. For example, a 5:00 min/km pace equals 12 km/h. For miles, divide 60 by the pace in min/mi to get mph.
Can I use this for walking as well?
Absolutely! This pace calculator works for any distance-based activity including walking, hiking, cycling, or swimming. Just enter your distance and time to find your pace and speed.
