Fuel Cost Calculator

Estimate how much fuel you'll need and what your trip will cost. Switch between metric (L/100 km) and imperial (MPG) units to match your preferences.

Total Fuel Needed
Total Fuel Cost
Cost per km

Estimates are based on constant fuel efficiency. Actual consumption varies with driving conditions, speed, terrain, and vehicle load.

How It Works

Metric: Fuel needed (L) = Distance (km) × Efficiency (L/100 km) ÷ 100. Total cost = Fuel needed × Price per liter.

Imperial: Fuel needed (gal) = Distance (miles) ÷ Efficiency (MPG). Total cost = Fuel needed × Price per gallon.

The cost-per-unit figure divides the total fuel cost by the trip distance, giving you a quick sense of your running cost per kilometer or mile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my car's fuel efficiency?
Check your vehicle's owner's manual or the manufacturer's website for the rated L/100 km or MPG. For a real-world figure, fill your tank, reset the trip meter, drive normally, then refill and divide the distance traveled by the fuel used.
What affects fuel efficiency?
Speed, acceleration habits, terrain, tire pressure, vehicle load, air conditioning, and weather all impact fuel consumption. Highway driving is typically more efficient than city driving.
How do I convert between L/100 km and MPG?
MPG (US) = 235.215 ÷ L/100 km. For example, 8 L/100 km ≈ 29.4 MPG. Conversely, L/100 km = 235.215 ÷ MPG.
